At Wise Hearts Therapy, our therapist has teamed up with Psychotherapy Matters. This means that if you would benefit from meeting with a psychiatrist, our therapist can help facilitate a consultation with an Ontario-based Psychiatrist. The meeting is virtual, and your therapist will be invited to the meeting to help support you and provide any information that may help (always with your permission!). Through the Psychotherapy Matters platform, it may be possible to meet with a psychiatrist within a few weeks. Psychiatric consultations through Psychotherapy Matters are covered by OHIP, so while you may need to pay for your therapists’ time, there’s no extra cost for the psychiatric care. When therapists and psychiatrists collaborate through Psychotherapy Matters, you avoid the confusion that can happen when professionals don’t communicate with each other.
The Psychotherapy Matters Virtual Clinic makes it easy for you, your therapist, and a psychiatrist to work together as a team. You can meet with the psychiatrist by secure video, and your therapist will be there with you during the appointment.
The psychiatrist can help with things like diagnosing mental health conditions, checking or starting medications, and sending medication recommendations to your family doctor, or prescriptions directly to your pharmacy. This setup also makes it easy for your therapist to stay in the loop and work closely with both the psychiatrist and your family doctor.
After your appointment, a note is sent to your doctor explaining what was discussed and what the plan is moving forward. If you need more follow-up with the psychiatrist, that can be arranged without needing a new referral each time.
Overall, the Virtual Clinic helps you get faster, more connected care from a team that works together to support your mental health.
